Igbo

Igbo is the language of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria. It's a tonal language with a complex system of vowel harmony. Igbo has a rich tradition of proverbs (ilu) which play an important role in daily conversation and oratory. The language has many dialects, which can differ significantly from each other.

The Igbo language has ancient roots in the Niger-Congo family. The Igbo people developed sophisticated societies and were known for their democratic traditions. The language gained wider written form through missionary activities in the 19th century.
